The eighties

 1986, part 3

Conquering Fort Gertrudis in Geertruidenberg.

17th August, a date to be remembered.
Fort Getrudis is taken by an army of Leonbergers.
After having conquered another middle aged town (see Leo Gazette no. 15) the Leonbergers took Geertruidenberg.
They gathered first in the Dunes of Loon and Drunen, for a warming up, in order to travel in column to the fort. After a short siege the gates were opened at noon and the victory was celebrated.

There was a banquet for the Leonbergers: delicious tripe, sausages, kibble, bones, fruit and lovely fresh water from the river.
For the people accompanying the Leos there was a conquerers banquet in the big lounge. It became a real feast, and after the dining and wining the plays.
Teams were put into formation and the Leo Battle could start.
By 5 p.m. the retreat was announced and Geertruidenberg was again a quiet town.
The two legged participants paid Hfl 17.50 for food and drinks, the Leos dined free of charge.

To be continued.
